Kuntaala Waterfall in Telangana was termed as the highest waterfall of Andhra Pradesh.
Kuntaala Waterfall is located at about 12 kilometres from the village Neredi Konda, which is located in the dense forest.
Kuntaala Waterfall has a historic significance. Kuntaala Waterfall got its name after the name of the famous mythological character portrayed in Kalidasa"s Abhijnanasakuntalam, Shakuntala, the beloved wife of King Dushyantha. The royal couple fell in love with each other and were mesmerized by the scenic beauty of the surroundings. The locals also believe that Shakuntala used to bathe by the Kuntaala waterfall. Kuntaala Waterfall is giving a feast of ancient and ethnic culture of the tribal settlement and is amalgamated with Mother Nature; to the eyes of the beholder.
Kuntala Waterfall lies at the source point of the Kanda River flowing through the dense forests; at this point comes gushing and falls from a height of 45 metres. Adjacent to Kuntaala Waterfall, one finds the temple of Lord Someshwara Swami. The locals as well as the visitors offer this deity pujas. One need to reach temple of Lord Someshwara Swami by passing through a hill slit into two, making a passage. This magnificent nature"s carving is very rare to see. On Maha Shivaratri festival, this temple is beautifully decorated and devotees throng the temple from various places of the district. The adjacent spot near Kuntala Waterfall acts as the pilgrimage tourism site in Telangana.
