The Kundadri Hill is named after a Jain hermit Kundakundacharya, who is said to have performed severe penance there.
The popular attraction of the Kundadri Hill is the ancient Jain temple at the hilltop that is believed to be dating back to the 17th century. It is dedicated to Tirthankara, the omniscient teacher in Jainism preaching "dharma" (the righteous path). The temple is adorned with stone statues of Jain sages, which, due to the place being secluded, have been attempted to be destroyed to discover the hidden treasure. The temple site has two ponds formed by the rocks, filled by the Tunga River which reaches there. These provided water to the earlier sages. The stagnant waters also flaunt floating lotuses. Jain pilgrims in large numbers throng to the temple on the festival of Makar Sankranti.
The Kundadri Hill also offers fine trekking trails and camping opportunities to visitors. These trails run amidst the dense forests covering the hill and provide a delightful scenic experience. The uphill trek is about 7 kilometres comprising easy terrains, from the base to the Jain temple at the summit. Along with the trek trails, there is an all weather tarred road constructed for the cars and buses to ply to the top.
The quietude and serenity of Kundadri is very appealing and its summit has panoramic picturesque views to offer, of the surrounding mountains, the many streams running down to the foothills, the backwaters of the Varahi Dam in the distance, sunsets and sunrises. When the skies are clear and cloudless, the place lends stunning visuals of sunrises and sunsets. On full moon day, one can catch the sunrise and the setting of the moon simultaneously at dawn. The sunsets amidst clear skies also make the Arabian Sea visible from hilltop.
