Kunchikal Falls is located near Masthikatte-Hulikal under the Hosanagara taluk of the Shimoga district in the state of Karnataka. The beauty and serenity of Kunchikal Falls lures tourists from the various corners of the world.

Attractions of Kunchikal Falls
The attraction of the Kunchikal Falls lies in its height, the waterfall cascades from a height of about 455 meters. The waterfall is formed by the Varahi River which cascades down hundreds of rocks near Hulikal or the Ghati Temple, Hosanagara taluk and Shimoga District. The Kunchikal Falls do not directly drop, but jump through a lot of rocks and boulders. The steps present a marvellous view.

The beauty of the waterfalls escalates during the rainy season. The greenery surrounding the area adds more charm to the waterfalls. It is a sight not to be missed. The place ensures calmness and serenity as it is one of the less explored waterfalls of the country.

However, not many people visit the Kunchikal Falls as visitors are not allowed around the waterfall due to the presence of the Mani Dam. The scarcity of people has helped a lot in keeping the area clean and pristine.

The nearby attractions of Kunchikal Falls are Agumbe Hill Station, Nibhani Gudda, and Jogi Gundi Falls.

Significance of Kunchikal Falls
The Kunchikal Falls is one of the primary sources of hydroelectric projects in Karnataka. However, after the construction of Mani Dam near Masthikatte and underground power generation station near Hulikal, Shimoga district, the flow of water is greatly reduced and visible only during rainy season.

Connectivity of Kunchikal Falls
The Kunchikal Falls is well connected via airway, railway and roadway. The nearest airport is the Mangalore Airport at a distance of 142 km. And the closest railway station is located at Udupi at a distance of 67 km from Agumbe. Tourists can avail buses that operate from Bengaluru to Kunchikal Falls. Though, road connectivity is good but it is better to avail one`s own car as the number of private buses is less. Accommodations are available in places like Hassan, Sringeri or Chikmagalur. The ideal time to visit the Kunchikal Falls is during the rainy season.
