Kunal Singh
Kunal Singh was an Indian actor who worked mostly in Tamil films, best known for his role in the romantic flick ‘Kadhalar Dhinam’, alongside Sonali Bendre. He was found dead, hanging in his Mumbai residence in 2008.

Kunal Singh was an Indian actor who appeared in mostly Tamil films. Popularly known as Kunal, he is most known for his debut role of Raja, in the Tamil romantic flick "Kadhalar Dhinam" opposite Sonali Bendre released in the year 1999. His death in 2008 from apparent suicide garnered significant media coverage.

Career of Kunal Singh
Born on September 29, 1977 in Haryana, India, Kunal Singh landed his first major film role with the Tamil romantic project "Kadhalar Dhinam", alongside Bollywood actress Sonali Bendre. He played the role of Raja, a young student who falls in love over the internet. The movie, based on a fresh subject of friendship and love through internet, released at a time when internet and chatting were not so popular, was well received and Kunal"s role and his distinct looks were well noticed. Directed by Kattir with the music composed by A. R. Rahman, the movie became a box office success and dubbed in Hindi and Telugu as well, the titles being "Dil Hi Dil Mein" and "Premikula Roju" respectively.

After "Kadhalar Dhinam", Kunal appeared in a series of box office failures like "Pesadha Kannum Pesume" in 2002 and "Nanbanin Kadhali" in 2007. He also appeared in films "Varushamellam Vasantham", released in 2002, "Arputham" in 2002 and "Saadhuriyan" in 2004. His films "Paarvai Ondre Podhume" (2001), "Punnagai Desam" (2002) and "Devathayai Kanden" (2005) were box office successes. "Devathayai Kanden" featured Kunal in a supporting role alongside actors Dhanush and Sridevi Vijayakumar. Subsequently unable to find roles as an actor, Kunal served as an assistant editor for several films and also turned to producing. He was working on a film "Yogi", produced under his newly formed production company Balagiri, when his unfortunate death took place.

Death of Kunal Singh
On February 7, 2008, Kunal Singh was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his Oshiwara apartment in Mumbai, by co-actress Lavina Bhatia. They were then working on a film "Yogi" that was being produced by Kunal"s newly formed production company Balagiri. The apparent suicide was challenged by his father Rajendra Singh, who claimed the body showed signs of suspicious bruising. Bhatia was detained by police in connection with his death, but was later released after the police could not prove any motive. The case was referred to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Prof. T. D. Dogra of All India Institute of Medical Sciences examined the scene of crime along with CBI and concluded by opining in favour of suicide.
