Kunal Kohli, the Indian film director, has been directing films as well as serial and shows on TV from a long time. He has studied at the Cathedral and John Cannon School in Mumbai. He made his directorial debut with a TV series titled Trikon. After some ups and downs in his career he became part of Yashraj Films owned by famed director and producer Yash Chopra. Kunal Kohli directed some of the films under his banner. His first film under the Yashraj banner was Mujhse Dosti Karoge which did not fare too well at the box office. The film starred, Hrithik Roshan, Rani Mukherjee and Kareena Kapoor. He wanted to do something more in his career. After two years he came back with his second venture Hum Tum, the film was one of the biggest hits of 2004 and established him as a known director. Including national award for the protagonist Saif Ali Khan the film won five Filmfare awards including Best Director for Kunal Kohli. He won against Yash Chopra who was nominated for Veer-Zaara. This film was real achievement for Kohli. His latest film Fanaa, starred Aamir Khan and Kajol who made her comeback after a four year break from the industry. The film was released in May 2006. Fanaa became one of the biggest hits that particular. His other works include Break ke Baad, Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic, and Teri Meri Kahani. This ace director uses his brain as well as heart to direct his films. He has also earned a lot of fame for directing videos. Some of them are `Mera Laung Gawacha` and `Chui Mui See Tum Lagti ho`. The director believes that the film makers should always listen to himself and then success will definitely come. A film maker should not just go and copy others ideas. Kunal Kohli hosted the show `Chalo Cinema` on Zee TV for ample time. He was even a film critic before joining the directorial gang. Kohli is known as the India`s kindest and warm-hearted film directors.
The Indian film director Kunal Kohli has got many awards for his different films in his short span of life. His film Hum-Tum won many Filmfare Awards and national awards as well. He got Filmfare awards as best director in the year 2004 while contesting with his own mentor Yash Chopra.
