Kumarsen Samarth is one of the popular directors of India, husband of Shobhna Samarth and father of Tanuja and Nutan.

Kumarsen Samarth belonged to a Marathi modernist family and grew up to be one of the finest directors of the nation. His inclination towards Marathi language made him to direct some superb Marathi and Hindi movies such as Nal Damyanti and Rupaye ki kahani in 1948. His biggest success was a Marathi film titled Saibaba.

Kumarsen studied cinematography in Germany and returned to India to make more films. A distant relative, Rattan Bai, arranged the marriage of Kumarsen with her beautiful daughter Shobhna Samarth, an aspiring actress. Shobhna initially was not ready for the marriage, but once she met him, she was struck by his good looks and decided to marry him on the condition that he will let her act in films. He agreed and they married. They had four children, including the two famous actresses Nutan and Tanuja. He and his wife even made few films together. After fourteen years of marriage, they separated mutually but never divorced. Kumarsen Samarth died in his mid-70`s.
