Krishna Nath Sarmah was one of the most well known Indian freedom fighters who fought against the British Empire in India in order to attain national independence. He significantly contributed towards the success of the Indian freedom struggle. Sarmah was a reputed social reformer as well as a nationalist from the state of Assam, which was formerly known as the Assam Province in British India. He started his legal practice and career in the year 1917 after successfully graduating with degrees in science and law.
Krishna Nath Sarmah was highly inspired and influenced by the principles and ideologies of Mahatma Gandhi. He eventually took active participation in Indian freedom struggle and sacrificed his career. Krishna Nath Sarmah, along with other renowned freedom fighters like Gopinath Bardoloi, Nabin Chandra Bardoloi and Tarun Ram Phukan, was one the forerunners of the Indian independence struggle in the territory of Assam.
