Kozhikode Beach was the capital beach of the powerful Zamorins and also a prominent trade and commerce centre for them.

It was here at Kappad Beach that Vasco Da Gama, a Portuguese trader and traveller landed in his search for the spices of India. The serene beaches, lush green countryside, historic sites near the sea beach all combine to make this a popular tourist destination in Kerala filled with a tepid atmosphere.

Kozhikode Beach is a beach of scenic beauty in Kozhikode, which serves as an ancient port town and is just one kilometre from the city centre. Its potential as a tourism destination has yet to be tapped.

Kozhikode Beach has a prominent place in the history of Calicut as the key port where traders from Arabia and China weighed anchor and had been trading for centuries.

The emergence of Beypore as the main port eclipsed its commercial importance of Khozikode Beach. The beach still has two wharfs. These two wharfs were built in the 19th century. These piers are in ruins. Khozikode Beach is close to these piers, which are favourite to the visitors. Here the water is muddy and sea is not shallow enough for swimming. However, the slanting sandy shore is relatively wide.

Kozhikode Beach is an ideal place for having an evening romantic walk. The scene of setting of evening sun is the perfect gift for an isolated nature lover. The beach has a lighthouse which is attracted to the tourists of both national and international arena. The children"s park is also a special attraction to the children. A few kilometres north from the light house, is a marine aquarium which attracts the tourist also.

Kozhikode Beach road runs about 10 kilometres along the coastal region. A part of the road instantaneously behind the city of Khozikode is an industrial hub. Kozhikode Beach is a favourite haunt of sunset viewers.

Kozhikode Beach is the good place for trying out seafood delicacies like kallumekaya (mussels), which are available at the numerous stalls lining the promenade. At dawn, a walk along Dolphin"s Point will reward one with a sight of playful dolphins. The best time to visit the place is from September to May.
