Koushik Sen, Bengali Theatre PersonalityKoushik Sen is a renowned face in the field of Bengali theatre and Bengali cinema. He is the contemporary to Bratya Basu and Suman Mukhopadhyay. He is a potential and talented actor, who has been a part of Indian television and stage, at the same time. Apart from acting, he has also shown his talent in writing and direction. He is a playwright, and uses the Bengali language to compose Bengali plays that have social, political and economic significance. Over the years, he has been successful in creating a niche for himself and the audiences love and appreciate his work - both as an actor and director. For his character play in the film Aamar Bhuvan, directed by Mrinal Sen, he was awarded the National Award for best supporting role, in the year 2003.

Early Life of Koushik Sen
Koushik Sen, son of Shymal Sen and Chitra Sen, was born on 7th of August in the year 1968. He did his schooling from Julien Day School and received all the basic education from there. Right from childhood he was associated with art, culture and theatre. He belonged to a family of theatre, and his mother is one of the renowned theatre personalities of West Bengal. After he completed his school education he joined the Scottish Church College, Kolkata for his graduation under University of Calcutta. After receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree he made a conscious decision to take up acting, direction and theatre as career.

Career of Koushik Sen
In the initial days of his career, Koushik Sen was a part of mainstream Bengali cinema, and along with that he also acted in some of the serious films. He worked with some of the best Bengali film directors and also been part of some wonderful and memorable films. Since, his main forte, or knack was in theatres, he founded a Bengali theatre group by the name of Swapnasandhani. The main purpose behind the formation of this group was to act out plays by various authors, writers and playwrights. This theatre group was founded in the year 1992, and from then on, this particular theatre group has staged more than 35 plays. Swapnasandhani, under the astute leadership of Koushik Sen, have reached far, and ever since its inception, the group has staged more than 35 plays. The group performs regularly in Sujata Sadan. Koushik has acted alongside many stalwarts in Bengali theatre, and one among them has been Soumitra Chatterjee in the play Tiktiki.
