Koteshwar Cave Temple, UttarakhandKoteshwar Cave Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, which is located at a distance of 3 km from the center of Rudraprayag District of Uttarakhand near Alakananda River. The temple is located inside a cave. There are several Shiva Lingas in the cave, which are naturally formed out of the water, which drops inside the cave continuously. The temple is mostly crowded during the months of August and September. It is one of the important destinations for Hindu pilgrimages.

Legend of Koteshwar Cave Temple
Legends believe that Lord Shiva had stopped here for meditation on his way to Kedarnath. According to the locals, when demon Bhasmasura tried to kill Lord Shiva, then Shiva ran away from the demon to take shelter here and meditated in Koteshwar cave to help Lord Vishnu. Later, Lord Vishnu killed Bhasmasura.
