Kannaur Lokesh Rahul, more popular as KL Rahul, is an Indian cricket player hailing from Karnataka. He is a right-handed batsman and plays for Karnataka. He came into limelight when he played for India at the 2010 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He was a part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) team Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2013 and played for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the following year. Kannaur Lokesh Rahul is the only batsman to reach the score of 100 runs with a boundary on his maiden centuries in all the three formats of the international cricket career in 2016.
Early Life of KL Rahul
Kannaur Lokesh Rahul was born on 18th April 1992 Bengaluru in Karnataka state of India. Rahul was born in a Lingayat family to Dr. K. N. Lokesh and Rajeshwari at Mangalore. His family originally hails from Kananur village in Magadi taluk in Ramanagara district. He was raised in Mangalore and moved to Bangalore at the age of 17. Rahul`s father Dr. K. N. Lokesh is a professor and Head of Department of Civil Engineering at the NITK, Surathkal, and mother Rajeshwari is a history professor at Mangalore University.
Career of KL Rahul
Rahul had a decent debut season in 2010-11. He made his first-class debut with his home state Karnataka where he played against Uttar Pradesh. With this match, he became the first triple centurion for Karnataka in a first class match scoring 337 in M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.
IPL Career of KL Rahul
He made his IPL debut in 2014 where he played for Sunrisers Hyderabad. In the season, he made a remarkable performance by slamming 337 of 448 balls smashing 47 fours and 4 sixes against Uttar Pradesh. It was the first triple century scored by a Karnataka batsman. His performance in the 2014-15 Ranji Trophy was also impressive. In the season, he averaged 93.11 in the nine matches he played.
International Career of Kannaur Lokesh Rahul
Kannaur Lokesh Rahul made his debut in the international field in the year 2014. He was zeroed in on to play in the Indian Test squad for the 2014-15 Border-Gavaskar Trophy which was held in Australia.
Boxing Day Test of Kannaur Lokesh Rahul
Kannaur Lokesh Rahul was chosen to be part of the Boxing Day Test which started on 26th December 2014 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. After a striking performance, he was handed over the Test cap by MS Dhoni. However, he made low scores in both the innings of his first Test playing poor shots. He scored hundred against Australia in his second match which was held on 8th January 2015 at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
International Career of Kannaur Lokesh Rahul in 2016
Kannaur Lokesh Rahul was picked in the Indian squad for the four-test tour against West Indies in 2016. Kannaur Lokesh Rahul played in the second Test at Jamaica and scored a strikeout 158, his highest Test score. In the process, he became the first Indian opener to score a century in his debut Test in the West Indies. In the first match of the T20 series in the United States, he scored a century off 46 balls in a losing cause, the second fastest ever and third by an Indian.
