After the death of Devavarman in 1060 A.D. his younger brother Kirtivarman succeeded him as a king. Immediately on his accession to the throne, he tried to revive the power of his dynasty. Inscriptions of Mahoba, Dubakunda etc. indicate that after defeating Ivakshmanikarna he re-conquered the portions which his brother had lost to Lakshmanikarna.
According to Dr. Majumdar, "The Muslim governor of Mahmud of Punjab attacked the part of Kalanjar, but his attack was repulsed by Kirtivarman." An inscription of Deogarh indicates that Kirtivarman`s minister Vatsaraj had built a fort near Deogarh after taking orders form his master. Kirtivarman ruled for 40 years and died in 1100 A.D.
