KIIT University was formerly known as Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology. It is an autonomous university.

KIIT University, OrissaKIIT is located at Bhubaneswar in Orissa. It was one of the youngest institutions to be awarded the deemed university status in India and then the university status in 2004. It is recognised by Limca Book of Records for this reason. It offers under-graduate and post-graduate courses in Engineering, Bio-technology, Medicine, Management, Law, Computer application, rural management, Fashion, Film Studies, Journalism and Sculpturing.

KIIT was established in 1992 as an Industrial Training Institute. School of Biotechnology, School of Rural Management, School of Medicine and KIIT Law School were started in the year 2007. In 2009 five new schools, School of Mass Communication, School of Design, School of Film Studies School of Tourism and Hospitality Management and School of Sculpture had been established.

The KIIT School of Technology offers undergraduate programs in seven distinct streams which includes; Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, Information Technology Mechanical Engineering, Automobile Engineering and Electronics and instrumentation Engineering.

Four new schools have started from 2009 session. These are the School of Design offers undergraduate degrees in Fashion Design and Fashion Technology and postgraduate degree in Fashion Management. The School of Sculpture offers Master degree in Fine Arts and the School of Mass Communication offers postgraduate degree in journalism.
