Khetri Nagar is located in the Jhunjhunu District of Rajasthan. Khetri comprises of two towns, the `Khetri Town` that was established by Raja Khet Singhji Nirwan and the town of `Khetri Nagar` that is located 10 km away from Khetri. History of Khetri
Khetri was regarded as the second largest Thikana in the state of Jaipur. The rulers of Khetri belonged to Shekhawat sub-clan (Bhojraj Ji Ka subsub-clan) of Kachawa dynasty of Jaipur. Maharajah Ajit Singh, the king of Khetri bestowed the name of Swami Vivekananda, to Narendranath before he went to west. He was also an ardent follower of Swami Vivekananda and financially supported him to go to Chicago to attend the Parliament of World Religions. He purchased Swamiji costly silken robes to wear during his lectures in the west. He also arranged for a first class ticket and provided with a substantial amount of money for his personal expenses for the journey.
Khetri Nagar has a multicultural ambience for the influx of people from different parts of the country. They come here to work in copper project. Khetri also has a centre of Ramakrishna Mission. This centre remains active in philanthropic activities and renders service to the people in the town as well as those dwelling in the nearby villages.

Khetri Fort
The fort of Khetri was constructed by the king of Khetri, Raja Ajit Singh Shekhawat Ji Saheb Bahadur. Trekkers can trek to a distance of about 4 km from the base. The impressive view of the scenic beauty from the fort is a breathtaking experience. A small marble temple is also located here. The spiral shaped open-cast copper mine called Chandmari is a treat to eyes, when viewed from the hilltop along the boundaries of the fort. This mine has been shut down and is abandoned.
Ramakrishna Mission Center
In 1958, Ramakrishna Mission was started at the Palace of Khetri, which was donated by Raja Ajit Singh`s grandson, Raja Bahadur Sardar Singh. The palatial building has been named as "Vivekananda Smriti Mandir", which houses marble statues of Raja Ajit Singh and Swami Vivekananda. The room at the topmost storey where Swamiji used to stay and had spiritual discourses with Raja Ajit Singhji has been converted into a prayer room. Raja Ajit Singh of Khetri was a great friend and disciple of Swami Vivekananda. Swami Vivekananda had stayed there three times during the years1891, 1893 and 1897 during his visits to Khetri.
Vivekananda Museum
The Vivekananda Museum in Khetri is a special attraction for the visitors that render information about the decade-long association of Swami Vivekananda with Khetri. The museum popularizes the cultural and social messages of the Swamiji and even depicts his life with realistic presentation through life-size and miniature Diorama. As a tribute to Swami Vivekananda on his 150th Birth Anniversary in January 2013, the Ramakrishna Mission proposes to open a majestic Museum to be housed in `Fatteh Billas` Palace building.
Ajit Sagar
Ajit Sagar is a large artificial lake constructed by Raja Ajit Singh on the outskirts of Khetri. Different types of animals can be found here like wild boars, barahsinghas (Rucervus duvaucelii) and various migratory birds. The town of Khetri is also famous for its delicious pickles.
Gopinathji Temple
The temple of Gopinathji stands as a unique example of shekhwati paintings.
Pannasar Talab
Artificial Talab is also in Khetri named Pannasar Talab is an artificial lake located in Khetri. A big monument is also situated here. The water running down the hills accumulate in the pond. There is a provision of three storage tanks in case of water overflow during rainy season. Sthapatya kala is also there in the form of small statues made on the boundaries.

The nearest railway station is Chirawa at a distance of 30 km. Khetri is at a distance of 190 km from Delhi and 180 km from Jaipur. Frequent buses are available from Jaipur to reach Khetri. From Delhi, one has to take a bus to Singhana, and catch a cab from there. Singhana is the bus terminal which links all the nearby places.
