K. R. Malkani, also known as Kewalram Ratanmal Malkani, was appointed as the Lieutenant Governor of Pondicherry, which is a Union Territory of India formed out of four enclaves of former French India. He served the position from the year 2002 to 2003, when he died. Malkani also served as the Vice President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from the year 1991 till 1994. Kewalram Ratanmal Malkani was also a journalist and an author. He was born on 19 November 1921 at Hyderabad, Sindh (now in Pakistan) in British India. He was educated at several schools and educational institutions at Pune, Hyderabad, Bombay (Mumbai), Karachi and Harvard.

Later Kewalram Ratanmal Malkani worked as a professor and journalist and was associated with the Jana Sangh since its establishment. Malkani was among the founders and became one of the leading members of the Bharatiya Janata Party in 1980. He also served as the Vice President of the Deendayal Research Institute in New Delhi from the year 1983 to 1990. In 1994, Malkani was elected as a member of the Rajya Sabha and remained a member till the year 2000. Kewalram Ratanmal Malkani or K. R. Malkani acted as the editor of several newspapers and served as the General Secretary of the Editors Guild of India as well from the year 1978 to 1979.

K. R. Malkani has written a number of and books and articles. Some of his most well literary compositions include The Midnight Knock (1977), The R.S.S. Story (1980), and The Sindh Story (1984). The Sindh Story was perhaps his most popular work on History. The book titled India First (2002), written by Malkani, was a collection of many of his articles that he wrote and published over the last several years. Political Mysteries was his last book and it explored a number major political assassinations in Indian history, including that of Syama Prasad Mookerjee (Shyama Prasad Mukherjee), Mahatma Gandhi, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, the Kashmir Princess, the Purulia arms dropping case and the Kanishka aircraft bombing. He composed the book researching on the topic for almost ten years.

K. R. Malkani or Kewalram Ratanmal Malkani died on 27 October 2003. He has a daughter named Sindhu and two sons Arvind Malkani and Vikram Malkani.
