Kavita Seth is a prominent Indian singer recognized for her work as a playback singer mainly in Bollywood. She is also famed as a great performer of Ghazal and Sufi music. She has also formed a band of Sufi musicians with the name `Karwaan Group`. She has received a number of accolades for her soulful singing in various Hindi movies. Although her performances encompass a number of musical genres, her forte is Sufi-style singing.
Early Life of Kavita Seth
Kavita Seth was born on 14th September 1970 in Bareilly, situated in Uttar Pradesh. She grew up in the same city as well as did her schooling and graduation from there. She moved to Delhi post marriage where she began performing in Doordarshan and All India Radio (AIR). In the meantime she also completed her post graduation in music, also known as Sangeet Alankar, from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Delhi. She also received her Masters Degree from the University of Delhi in Hindi literature. Subsequently she received Hindustani classical music training under the tutelage of Iqbal Ahmad_Khan, Vinod from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya and N. D. Sharma of Gwalior Gharana.
Career of Kavita Seth
The musical career of Kavita Seth started right from her hometown when she used to perform in Khan-kahe Niyazia Dargah, in Bareilly. Her phenomenal singing soon paved her way for singing in musical concerts and public shows. Apart from India, she has performed at live shows all over the world including places like Stockholm, Oslo, Berlin, Scotland, Birmingham, London and many more. Once, while she was performing at Muzaffar Ali`s International Sufi Festival at Delhi she was spotted by the famous director Satish Kaushik and was offered the song `Zindagi ko Maula` for his movie Vaada starring Amisha Patel in 2005. This venture marked her debut in the Hindi film industry as a playback singer. Afterwards she shifted to Mumbai where she took up her next Bollywood project in 2006 and lent her voice for the song `Mujhe Mat Roko` from Anurag Basu`s movie Gangster. She received rare reviews for her rendition. This was followed by her playback singing in a number of Bollywood flicks including Yeh Mera India, Raajneeti, I Am, Cocktail, Bombay Talkies and others. Her song `Iktara` from the movie Wake Up Sid went on to become a chartbuster, earning her huge popularity and several awards.
Apart from singing she is also involved in music composing. Some of her compositions have been featured in N. Chandra`s film "Yeh Mera India" in 2009. She also has private albums to her credit such as Dil-e-Nadan and Woh Ek Lamha both of which are Sufi Ghazal albums. Sufiana and Hazrat are her other Sufi music albums.

Kavita Seth has been the winner of several awards for her mesmerizing renditions. In 2010 she won Filmfare Awards, Star Screen Awards, International Indian Film Academy Awards, Stardust Awards and Global Indian Music Awards for her song `Iktara` from the movie Wake Up Sid. In 2012 she received Big Entertainment Awards for the song `Tumhi Ho Bandhu` from the movie Cocktail.
