Kaushambi District is bounded by district Pratapgarh in the north, by Chitrakoot District in the south, by Allahabad in the east and by Fatehpur district in the west. Total geographical area occupied by Kaushambi District is 2012.8 sq kms. Manjhanpur is the district headquarters. Manjhanpur is situated in the south-west of Allahabad on the north bank of the Yamuna River.

History of Kaushambi District
As per the history of Kaushambi District, there are several traditions suggesting the origin of its name. This district was formed in the year 1997. In the past it was a part of Allahabad District. The fortified city forms an irregular oblong on the plan. The city had gates on three sides - east, west and north. Besides the bastions, gates and sub-gates, the city was encircled on three sides by a moat. At some points, however, there is evidence of more than one moat. The entire city, thus encircled by the rampart wall and moat, is littered with a huge mass of brickbats indicating the density of structures in the city.

Ganga River and Yamuna River are the main rivers flowing through Kaushambi District. Administration of Kaushambi District
Administration of Kaushambi District is divided into three tehsils namely Manjhanpur, Sirathu and Chail. These tehsils are further divided into Development Blocks. Sarsawa, Manjhanpur and Kaushambi are the three main development blocks in Manjhanpur tehsil, whereas Kada and Sirathu are the development blocks in Sirathu Tehsil, Chail, Mooratganj, Newada are the development blocks in the Chail tehsil.

Economy of Kaushambi District
Kaushambi District is mainly an agricultural district and economy is mainly agrarian in character. Main crops cultivated in the district are wheat and rice. In some areas, pulses are also cultivated like Arhar, Urad and Chana. The very famous Allahabad variety of Guava is actually the specialty of Kaushambi District. The principal sources of irrigation are canals and tube wells.

People from all corners Sheetla Temple of Kara, Kaushambi, Prabhas Giri, Kamasin Devi Temple and Durga Devi Temple of Manjhanpur are the main tourist spots of Kaushambi District.
