Kausani is located in Almora District in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. Kausani is mainly popular for its exquisite panoramic view of the pristine Himalayan Mountain Range and is a major tourist location in Uttarakhand.

Location of Kausani
Kausani is spread over an area of 5.2 sq km and consists of a population of 4046, as per the last Census. Kausani has an altitude of around 1890 m and is almost 53 km North from Almora.

Peaks in Kausani
The majestic peaks of Panchchuli, Nanda Devi and Trisul offer a scenic 300 km wide view of the Himalayas. Kausani is amongst the rare places that offers such a panoramic view of the grand Himalayas. Kausani is situated atop a crest surrounded by dense growth of Pine trees, with Baijnath Katyuri and Garur valley on one side and Someshwar valley on the other. Mahatma Gandhi stayed in Kausani, which is situated amidst the outstanding Kumaon hills, in the year 1929 and named the popular hill station as Switzerland of India by Mahatma Gandhi, due the resemblance of the landscape. Renowned poet Sumitranandan Pant also helmed from this stunning hill station.

Tourism in Kausani
The Himalayan hill town of Kausani, which was initially known as Valna, attracts numerous tourists from across the globe through out the year. Kausani is the preferred Honeymoon destination because of the romantic environment of the region created through presence of pleasing weather and splendiferous Pine trees. Apart from the scenic natural beauty of the Himalayan Mountain Range, the place is also famous for various Ashrams. Baijnath, Bageshwar, Chaukori, Berinag, Gangolihat, Patal, Bhuvaneshwar and Gwaldam are the centre of attractions of Kausani.

Anashakti Ashram
The most admired place in Kausani is the Anashakti Ashram, where Mahatma Gandhi resided here for some time. The Ashram used to be a tea estate earlier but now it has been transformed into a research centre and a library. Mahatma Gandhi scripted his commentary of Anashkti Yog during his stay here. There is also a memorial of Katherine Heileman, popularly known as Sarlaben, who was a social activist and Mahatma Gandhi`s disciple, spent her life her fighting for various social causes. Daily prayers are organised in the evening. Sarlaben eventually established the Anashakti Ashram.

Pant Museum
Kasauni is the birthplace of legendary poet Sumitra Nandan Pant. The place of the popular poet of the Hindi literature was born has been modified into Pant Museum. The Museum has been conserved in its original format as it is a place of adequate importance. There is a library on pant as well.

Lakshmi Ashram
Lakshmi Ashram is also a significant location in Kasauni. The Ashram is dedicated for welfare of women and other social services. Lakshmi Ashram is set amidst dense pine forest in a solitary location.

There are other places to visit as well, like, Bageshwar, Baijnath temples and several Tea gardens. Makar Sankranti which is locally known as Uttarayani is celebrated here in full bloom. A huge fair is organised during the festival, at Bageshwar. There are a range of adventurous activities available in Kausani for the travellers, such as rock climbing, hiking, trekking etc. September to November is the prime duration to visit Kausani. The summer months from April to June are also a good season to enjoy the pleasant sights and weather of Kausani.
