Katrina Kaif is an Indian actress and former model who has established herself amongst the leading actresses of the Hindi film industry known as Bollywood. Katrina Kaif has also been featured in a number of Malayalam and Telugu movies as well. She made her debut in Indian films with Kaizad Gustad`s Boom in 2003, which was a flop at the box office. However her subsequent ventures earned her recognition in the celluloid garnering huge success and popularity. Early Life of Katrina Kaif
Katrina Kaif was born on 16th July 1984 to Mohammed Kaif, an Indian Kashmiri father, and Susanna Turquotte, an English mother. She has six sisters and one brother. After the divorce of her parents, her family moved to China and then to Japan.
Eventually Katrina Kaif`s family went to France and later to other European countries like Belgium, Germany, Poland and Switzerland. Later her family settled Hawaii, and finally in England, which was the home country of her mother. Katrina Kaif began modelling at the age of fourteen in London .Her first assignment was a jewellery campaign. She continued modelling in London under a contract with the Models 1 Agency and did campaigns for houses such as La Senza and Arcadius. At the age of 17 she started to study engineering in London but could not muster much interest in the same. Later she came to India to pursue a career in the glamour world.
Career of Katrina Kaif
Katrina stepped into Bollywood with Kaizad Gustad`s Boom which failed to establish her as an actress. However what shot her to fame was her Telugu movies Malliswari and Pidugu. In 2002 she permanently shifted to Mumbai and decided to take acting as a full-fledged career. Owing to her stunning looks she was flooded with modelling assignments in Mumbai. She received offers from LG, Cola, Fevicol, Lakme, and Veet. Later she appeared in a minor role in film Sarkar alongside Abhishek Bachchan. She bagged her first major role with David Dhawan`s Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya? in which she appeared along with Salman Khan Sohail Khan and Sushmita Sen. Linguistically challenged, her voice was earlier dubbed by a native speaker but soon she overcame her problem by working on her diction through Hindi classes. In her following projects she dubbed her own lines like in Namastey London opposite Akshay Kumar and later Apne with Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol and Dharmendra. Katrina even learnt the art of dancing.
Her film opposite Govinda, named Partner, was a chartbuster hit. Her other films like Humko Deewana Kar Gaye and Welcome gained much popularity.
The turning point in Katrina Kaif`s career arrived in 2007 with Vipul Shah`s romantic comedy Namastey London. The movie earned huge success and the chemistry of the lead pair was much appreciated. In 2008 she had 3 releases, Abbas-Mustan`s blockbuster Race alongside Saif Ali Khan, Akshay Kumar and Bipasha Basu; Anees Bazmee`s production Singh Is Kinng, opposite Akshay Kumar and Subhash Ghai`s multi starrer Yuvvraaj. In 2009 she paired with John Abraham and Neil Nitin Mukesh in New York. The film rendered her recognition as an actress and she received acclamations for her appealing portrayal in the movie. She also starred with Ranbir Kapoor in Ajab Prem Ki Gajab Kahani and with Akshay Kumar in De Dana Dan. In the year 2010 she starred in super hit flick Rajneeti with Ranbir Kapoor, Arjun Rampal, Manoj Bajpai and Ajay Devgan and Farah Khan`s Tees Maar Khan with Akshay Kumar in which she had a hit dance sequence `Sheila Ki Jawani`.
In 2011, Katrina Kaif featured in the blockbuster Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, along with Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar, Abhay Deol and Kalki Koechlin. The film, directed by Zoya Akhtar was praised by critics and her performance was also admired. Later she appeared in the film Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, with Imran Khan and Ali Zafar. This film was also commercially successful and she was praised for her portrayal of a cheerful punk rock girl. She later appeared in films like Ek Tha Tiger, Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Dhoom 3.
Other Ventures of Katrina Kaif
Apart from Bollywood Katrina Kaif has also worked for charitable causes. She is associated with the Relief Projects India, an NGO for which her mother works.
She participated in Temptation Reloaded 2008 which comprised a series of concerts held in various countries along with other Bollywood stars. She has also performed at the closing ceremony of the 2nd edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) and at the opening ceremony of the 6th edition of the IPL. Apart from these she has also performed at various award functions. She also endorses many popular brands such as L`Or‚al, Pantene, Panasonic, Olay and others.

Katrina Kaif is a British citizen and works on an employment visa in India. She has secular religious views and has visited many religious shrines and temples in the country, including Hindu, Islamic and Sikh places of worship.
