Katraj Snake Park, Pune District, MaharashtraKatraj Snake Park is a famed conservation park located at the Pune district of Maharashtra which shelters a vast assortment of Snakes, Turtles and other reptiles. In the year 1999, the park became a part of the Rajiv Gandhi Udyan. It spans over an area of 130 acres. More than 160 species of snakes have been recorded here having different shapes and sizes. The most treasured possession of Katraj Snake Park is a nine feet long King Cobra which is about 6 years old. It lies at a distance of about 8 kilometres from the city of Pune near the Bharati Vidyapeeth University along the Pune Satara Highway. Katraj Snake Park is known for its work towards the conservation of reptiles.

Katraj Snake Park was established in the year 1986 with the aid of the Pune Municipal Corporation and by the efforts of Mr. Neelam Kumar Khaire. Being a snake lover, Mr. Khaire serves as the Director of the park. He has put much effort for the development of the park by introducing new techniques of communication which includes providing information to the blind about snakes through Braille. The park also houses an animal orphanage. A number of rare species of reptiles have been kept in the park.

Katraj Snake Park also hosts a library which exhibits a sea of information about snakes. It also has a zoo which makes it a cherished place for the children and a popular tourist destination. Pro-wildlife activities are also prominent in the park. In order to diminish fear and common myths about snakes among people, the park organizes a number of snake awareness programs and snake festivals. It also hosts special programs during Nagpanchami for discouraging ill-treatment towards snakes.
