Kartar Singh is an Indian wrestler who owns the fame of winning Gold Medals at the Asian Games in the years 1978, held in Bangkok, and 1986, held in Seoul. He was born on 7th of October 1953 in Sur Singh village situated in Tarn Taran district of Punjab. At the Summer Olympics in the year 1984 he was ranked 7th in the Men`s freestyle 100 kg wrestling category. In the Asian Games held in Delhi in the year 1982 he bagged a Silver Medal. In the 1978 Commonwealth Games, held in Edmonton, he won a Bronze Medal and in the 1982 Commonwealth Games of Brisbane he won a Silver Medal.
Kartar Singh later settled in Jalandhar and worked as Director Sports of Punjab and Superintendent of Police. Currently he is working as an Inspector General of Police in Punjab and is regarded as a master world champion in wrestling.
Kartar Singh has been honoured with Arjuna Award in the year 1982 and with Padma Shri Award in the year 1987. He also won several Gold Medals in the Veterans World Championships organized in Columbia (in 1992), Toronto (in 1993), Martiony in Switzerland (in 1997) and Bodex in France (in 1998).
