Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences,  Hubli, Dharwad, KarnatakaThe Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) is a renowned medical institution, located in Hubli, in the district of Dharwad in Karnataka. The institution started its journey in August, 1957 as the Karnataka Medical College, Hubli and it functioned with this name till June, 1997. The institute is considered to be one of the oldest medical institutions in the state. The college operated its functions from a building presently known as J. G. Commerce College, in its initial few years and the management shifted it to the present campus, at a later period. The institute is working with the aim of spreading the light of medical education among the students of Karnataka and also providing quality treatment to the people of the state.

The Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), Hubli, Dharwad has been showing outstanding performances, since its inception and it has a history of having a host of eminent teachers as its faculty. The college has been continuously playing a major role in serving the society at large, not only in terms of providing tertiary health care services to the needy, but also by developing resources in terms of health care providers and researchers. The institute started to be recognised as a well known major and a model comprehensive regional center for cancer treatment and research, from the 1990s. The institute was capable of offering contemporary sophisticated diagnostic and therapeutic services to ever increasing numbers of cancer patients, from Karnataka and its neighboring states.

The State Government of Karnataka gave autonomous status to the then Karnataka Medical College in June, 1997 and the college started to be recognised as the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), since then. The status was given with a view to achieve the institute`s objectives of providing comprehensive Undergraduate and Postgraduate, medical & paramedical education in various subjects. The institute also worked with the objective of developing the facilities for research, training, screening, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, palliative and preventive care for the society at large. The Institute has shown tremendous progress towards achieving this goal, since it got the autonomous status.

The Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), Hubli, Dharwad is capable of providing some of the major super speciality services like Cardiology, Nephrology, Endocrinology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Urology, Plastic surgery, Pediatric surgery at the moment. The institute has already earned the status of "Institute of Excellence" and also recognized as a Training Center for WHO Fellowship. The institute has been working as a teaching hospital and tertiary care health centre, catering largely to the northern and north-eastern regions of Karnataka, at the moment.

The Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), Hubli, Dharwad offers a large number of courses in various specialised departments of medical science, at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. All the courses offered by the KIMS, Hubli are recognised by the Medical Council of India (MCI). Apart from the undergraduate courses like MBBS and B.Sc, the postgraduate courses like MD, MS and MDS are also offered in the institute. The institute offers Para Medical Courses, as well. There are a large number of departments in the institute, helping the management in various ways. The major departments include the department of Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Pathology, Microbiology, Forensic Medicine, General Medicine, Pediatrics, Skin & STD, T. B. & Chest Diseases, Psychiatry, Orthopaedics, General Surgery, Ophthalmology, E.N.T, Paediatric Surgery, Anaesthesiology, Radiology, Dentistry, O.B.G and the department of Radiotherapy. There are some Super Speciality Departments like Nephrology, Neurology, Plastic Surgery, Cardiology, Neuro Surgery and Urology in KIMS, Hubli, as well.
