Early Life of Karan Johar
Karan Johar was born on May 25, 1972 in Mumbai. He is the only son of the late Yash Johar and Hiroo Johar. He was a student of Green lawns High School and later at H. R. College in Mumbai. Karan Johar is also a Masters Degree holder in French. Dharma Productions is his production company, which was founded by his father. Karan Johar aimed at various activities like dress designing, scriptwriting, anchoring and also reporting but finally he joined his father"s Dharma Productions.

Career of Karan Johar
Karan Johar first appeared as an actor in the movie "Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge" (1995); here he played the character of Shahrukh Khan`s close friend, Rocky. He was also the assistant director of this film and helped Aditya Chopra for the screenplay. This was when Karan Johar started to design Shahrukh Khan"s costumes that he always did for him in other movies like "Dil To Pagal Hai" (1997), "Duplicate" (1998), "Mohabbatein" (2000), "Main Hoon Na" and "Veer-Zaara" (2004).

The directorial debut of Karan Johar was in 1998 with the movie "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai". The film was a major box office hit. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was awarded 8 Filmfare Awards in 1998 including Best Movie, Best Director and all four Best Actor awards for both the leading and supporting roles. His second directorial effort was the multi-starrer family drama "Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham". It was also highly successful film released in 2001 that has won 5 Filmfare Awards.

Karan Johar, Indian Film MakerIn 2003, he produced and at the same time wrote the script for "Kal Ho Naa Ho". This film was also a box office hit. Eventually the career of Karan Johar proved to be a golden one in the Indian film industry. In early 2005, he produced another movie, named "Kaal".

After taking a break of 4 years from directing, his next movie was "Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna" that was released in 2006. It was a big hit in USA and UK but received a mixed response in India. In the year 2010, released "My Name is Khan" where he casted Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in the lead roles.

Johar is also considered as one of the most popular and mass friendly host. He started off as the anchor of a television chat show called "Koffee with Karan" sponsored by Star World, in which he interviews celebrated personalities from Bollywood. Bollywood celebrities like Kajol, Rani Mukherjee, Hrithik Roshan, Abhishek Bachchan, ShahRukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan have been invited to this show. The first season aired from 2004 to 2005, the second season aired in 2007, the third season aired from 2010 to 2011, the fourth season aired from 2013 to 2014, the fifth season aired from 2016 to 2017 and the sixth season is currently been aired. Karan Johar has also hosted many film award ceremonies and served as the Judge of many reality shows in India in the recent years.

Karan Johar has received endless numbers of Awards in the Bollywood industry. Apart from that, in 2006, Karan Johar was honoured to be the first Indian filmmaker to become a jury member in the Miss World competition in Warsaw, Poland.

The Geneva-based World Economic Forum 2006 chose Karan Johar as one of "250 Global Young Leaders". He is believed to be one of the emerging India`s young thought leaders. He also participated and delivered a speech at the Wharton India Economic Forum held at the prestigious Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit in New Delhi in November 2006.

On March 5, 2017, Karan Johar confirmed that he has become the father to twins whom he has named Yash and Roohi Johar. The boy and girl were born via surrogacy.
