Kanthuri Festival, Festivals of Tamil NaduThe Kanthuri Festival is held at the memorial of Saint Quadirwali in Tamil Nadu. It acts as a platform to choose the spiritual leader of the celebrations from one of the descendants of the saint. Several elaborate rituals and rites are witnessed. The devotees present their offerings to the Peer. The tenth and the last day of the festival witness the anointment of the tomb of the saint Quadirwali with sandalwood paste. The paste is distributed among the followers. It is considered that the paste has magical healing power.

Several devotees come to Tamil Nadu to witness this significant event and be a part of it. This event is generally celebrated between the months of July and August. This holy sandal paste is believed to possess special powers and acts as a remedy for illness. Kanthuri Festival is renowned at Nagore durgah near Nagapattinam.
