Kampilya is one of the five sons of Hariyaswa. Hariyaswa believed that his five sons or Panchalas are able to protect the countries.
Panchala was the country north and west of Delhi, between the foot of the Himalaya and the Chambal. It was afterwards divided into northern and southern Panchala separated by the Ganges. Kampilya was the name also given to part of the country, and was called Kampil by the early Mohammedan invaders. Later Kampilya was the city of Raja Drupada.
