Kamarpukur is one of the well known holy places of West Bengal which is situated at the Arambagh subdivision of Hoogly district in West Bengal. Sri Ramkrishna Paramhansa was born in the soil of Kamarpukur in a poor family at the year 1836. Not only did he spend his childhood there but also began his spiritual journey from the solitude of this village. Ramakrishna was born under a shed beside a husking pedal. That shed has been preserved carefully and on 1951 a marble statue of Ramakrishna, designed by famous painter and sculptor Nandalal Basu, was installed inside the shed. Built on the bank of the canal "Bhutir Khal" there exists the old kuthir of Sri Ramkrishna, the house where he used to live and the mango tree that he had planted are preserved by the Kamarpukur Math. The Ramakrishna math was built much later which is known as Ramkrishna Mission.

Kamarpukur is one of the most picturesque sights of West Bengal which is marked by the small scenic villages. These villages are mainly known for its neatness and well maintained conditions. The village is surrounded with a number of small serene ponds which are often used for waters ports. The calm and natural beauty of the village often attracts the visitors who get enchanted with the atmosphere of the quite village of Kamarpukur. With its unique style of mud cottages and curved roofs, and neat well laid mud avenues it attract the tourists who can breath fresh air from the busy cosmopolitan cites.

Besides the original house of Sri Ramakrishna this place is surrounded with a number of other tourist spots. Located at the bank of Bhutir Khal (canal), this place includes some popular sights like the place of Bhursubo where the eminent persons like Manik Raja used to live. The place has some exclusive mango groves, Yogi`s Shiva temple, Raghubir Temple, Haldar-Pukur along with some prominent temples like temple of Gopeshwar Shiva, Dhani Kamarini`s Temple and Mukundapur Shiva Temple which add to the sacredness of the area. With the construction of guest houses, a library, a dispensary and schools and the re-excavation of the tank called Haldar-Pukur, and also with the development of the surroundings, the place has really become one of the beauty-spots in the whole locality. Vishalakshi Temple is situated at Anur, around 2 kms from Kamarpukur. The renowned tanks of Sukhasayer and Hatisayer excavated by him and also the mango-grove now almost extinct in the nearby meadows, testify to some of his noteworthy acts. To the south-east are the ruins of Fort Mandaran and the ancient temple of Saileswara Shiva, which bear witness to the prosperous days of the Pathan rulers. 3 miles to the west, is Jayrambati, the village in which the Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi was born. Also the houses of Sitanath Pyne and Chinu Shankhari`s birth-place add to the tourist spots of Kamarpukur.

Connectivity to Kamarpukur
Kamarpukur is 104 km from Kolkata. Many trains are available from Howrah to Tarakeshwar and also buses are available to Kamarpukur via Arambagh. From Bishnupur just crossing the Amodar River is Kamarpukur.

Thus, with a number of revered places and peaceful sites Kamarpukur is considered as one of the most peaceful sight of West Bengal.
