Kamala Nehru College , Defence Colony , New DelhiKamala Nehru College stands as a symbol of women`s empowerment focusing on their education at holistic level enmeshed with academic excellence.

Kamala Nehru College is ennobled by its glorious history. Being founded on 20th July of the year 1964, it was the `Government College for Women` that was situated at Defense Colony. Dr K.K Gorowara was the founder and also the principal of this Kamala Nehru College. It had a humble beginning with only sixteen staff members and two hundred and nine students. Only courses in Arts streams were offered. In the years 1966-67, this college was named as `Modern College for Women`. 1972 was another milestone in the Kamala Nehru College`s history. On November 21st of this year it was shifted to its newly formed building at Hauz Khas. Mr.V.V.Giri, the former President of India laid its foundation. Then it was renamed as the `Kamala Nehru College`.

Several important incidents have occurred which embellished its history. In the year 1974, on the occasion of Founder`s Day, Mrs. Indira Gandhi went to this new building, and also brought out the plaque and implanted saplings. `Swati`, the college magazine began in the year 1965-66. In the succeeding year i.e 1967-68 this magazine was named as `Apoorva`. For inculcating cultural activities an auditorium was well constructed. On 17th December 1991 Late Dr.Shankar Dayal Sharma, ex vice President of India inaugurated it.

Kamala Nehru College offers courses for student who wants to pursue graduation and post graduation. M A in subjects namely Hindi, English, Political Science, History, Philosophy and Sanskrit are proposed. At undergraduate level, one also can take up B.A. Hons in subjects like Hindi, Sanskrit, English, Political Science, History, Economics, Philosophy, Journalism Mathematics, Geography, Psychology. Apart from these B.A. Programme in various disciplines like Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Political Science, History, Economics, Philosophy, Geography, Mathematics, Sociology, Bengali ,Punjabi Advertising Sales Management & Sales Promotion. Commerce students also can take admission in B Com (Hons) and B Com( Pass) courses in this esteemed college of Delhi.

In order to make the students all rounder in every respective, special societies have developed in Kamala Nehru College. These include Green Beans , Creative Writing, wallpaper society, fine arts and decoration society, dance society - nupur, music societies, lakshya, debating society ,wide angle - film society .Due mentioning is to be made of Alumni Association of Kamala Nehru College . It is named as Smriti constituting of all thee enthusiastic alumni. There is also counseling center that has been set up in Kamala Nehru College premises. Expert faculty of the Department of Psychology is part of this center to assist students for converting their limitation into their strength and thus increases their capability.

Women`s Development Center is another society of this college. It runs with a noble objective of infusing positive energy amongst the young generations and takes some concrete actions to make them capable and independent. . In other words the Center builds up, encourages and alleviates sensitiveness towards the woman`s rights. Special workshop on various issues like varying gender rules, sexual harassment, boldness training are also conducted.

Placement cell also has set up in Kamala Nehru College that has augmented its activities day by day. Numerous presentations were organized for providing career counseling to the students. `BPO industry, Call Centers, Travel and tourisms, Media production and editing, Hospitality industry and MBA` are various areas that the people can venture in the future. Pre-placement talks were delivered by all the multinational companies. A placement agency, called Career Dimensions have short listed fifty students from the final year for placement in numerous banks.

Apart from the above mentioned courses a number of proposals were received from NIIT, Infirmity Business School, Disha Hearing Center, DIU Dresden International University, Dresden and Weighn&Leigh College for starting, short term courses
