Kamakshi temple was originally situated in Raia in Salcette. However it was later shifted to Shiroda in the year 1564.

Kamakshi Temple, GoaKamakshi Temple is dedicated to Goddess Kamakshi who is the embodiment of motherhood. She represented Shri Vidya. There are other shrines in the same compound which includes Shree Shantadurga, Shree Laxmi Narayana and Shree Rayeshwar. The temple also has lodging facilities. It has a cluttered architecture. The architecture of the Sri Kamaksha temple is cluttered as the main tower is imposing.

It has a pagoda shaped roof like the Buddhist style. In the corner of the roof serpents are seen while elephants statue are found kneeling at the corner of the temple. Beside Kamakshi temple is a small shrine that is dedicated to Lord Shiva or lord Rayeshwara. Shukla Panchami and Vadya Chaturdashi are observed in this temple.
