Kalimpong District was formed on 14th February 2017, after splitting from the Darjeeling district as the 21st district of West Bengal.

Kalimpong District consists of the Kalimpong Municipality and three community development blocks: Kalimpong-I, Kalimpong-II and Gorubathan.

The three blocks of Kalimpong District contain 42-gram panchayats. Kalimpong District has its headquarters at Kalimpong.

Education of Kalimpong District
Kalimpong District is known for its educational institutions, many of which were established during the rule of British Government in India. Kalimpong College, Cluny Women`s College and Rockvale Management College are the main colleges in Kalimpong District. Kalimpong College, Cluny Women`s College and Rockvale Management College are affiliated to the North Bengal University and the later affiliated to West Bengal University of Technology apart from these Good Shepherd IHM (Hotel management Institution) offer courses on hospitality sectors.

Culture of Kalimpong District
The original settlers of Kalimpong District are the Lepcha Tribe although the majority of the populace are ethnic Nepali people, having migrated from Nepal to Kalimpong in search of jobs while it was under British East India Company and British Government of India. Some of the popular Hindu festivals in Kalimpong District include Dashain, Tihar and the Buddhist festival of Losar. The languages spoken in Kalimpong District include Nepali, which is the predominant language; Lepcha, Limbu, Tamang, Kirat, Hindi, English and Bengali.

Kalimpong is a hill station in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is now under Kalimpong District of West Bengal. It is located at an average elevation of 1,250 metres. The town of Kalipong is the headquarters of the Kalimpong district.
