Kali Bari Mandir, Connaught Place, New DelhiA stone`s throw away from the Birla Mandir (Laxminarayan Mandir), to the right, is a small but immensely popular temple devoted to Goddess Kali, the Kali Bari Mandir. Especially dear to the Bengali community of Delhi, Kali Bari Mandir is the pivot of celebration during the festival of Durga Puja, held every October. Since Kali is regarded as the most fearsome, warlike manifestation of Goddess Durga, hence liquor is offered to the Goddess in this temple. The temple is rather small and simple in its design, but is revered as a very sacred site by the faithful. From within the temple grows a huge peepal tree that pierces through the ceiling to shade the temple. The peepal is considered sanctified by the Hindus and red threads are tied around the circumference when pleading a boon.
