Religious Significance of Kalhatti Falls
The origin of the waterfall is steeped in myths and legends. According to legends, the great sage Agastya dwelled here. Another legend is related to Lord Veerbhadra. It is believed that the Veerabhadra temple was constructed in the Vijayanagar times. The residing deity in this cave temple is Lord Shiva. The entrance of the temple is adorned with three elephants. The devotees believe that the water of Kalhatti Falls has the power to heal injuries. Hence, the area adjacent to this waterfall in Karnataka is also a famous pilgrimage centre. Every year, a fair of Lord Veerabhadra is organised here for three consecutive days during the months of March and April. The fair attracts pilgrims from various parts of the state.
