Kaleshwaram, situated in the Mahadevpur Mandal of the Karimnagar district in the south Indian state Telangana, is a village which forms the border of Telangana and Maharashtra. It lies at the juncture of the River Godavari and its tributary named Pranahiti. The place is associated with a legend that claims that several years ago a Vaishya had performed `abhisheka` of Kaleshwara Mukteswara here with hundreds of milk pots. It is believed that the milk for that abhisheka evolved at the confluence of Godavari and Pranahita and thus it is known as Dakshina Gangotri.

Geography of Kaleshwaram
Kaleshwaram enjoys a tropical climate and receives an annual rainfall of 995 millimetres. During summers the average temperature of the region is 44 degree Celsius whereas during winters the average temperature remains 20 degree Celsius. It is nestled at the meeting point of Godavari River and its tributary named River Pranahita. It is believed that another river called Saraswathi also flows under Godavari and Pranahita, and thus the place is known to be the meeting point of three rivers as `Triveni Sangamam` in which Triveni refers to three and Sangamam means confluence. Kaleshwaram also serves as the centre of Pushkars which are held after every 12 years. In the summer of 2013 Saraswathi pushkara was organized.

Temple of Kaleshwaram
Kaleshwaram hosts a Hindu temple with Lord Shiva as the presiding deity. The temple is prominent for housing two Shiva Lingams on a single pedestal. The lingams have been named as Lord Yama and Lord Shiva. Collectively the name Kaleshwara Mukteswara Swamy has been rendered to them. The temple is quite significant as it finds mention in Trilinga Desham which refers to `Land of Three Lingas`. During the Karthika month of the Indian calendar which falls from 16 November to 15 December, a number of tourists visit the temple. From 6th to 17th December, holy baths are also organized. People who partake in the holy bath first visit Lord Ganesha, then offer their prayers to Lord Yama and at the end pray to Lord Shiva. The temple serves two types of prasadam including Pulihora which refers to tamarind rice and Laddu which is a kind of sweet.
