Kaduvaaikaraiputtur Temple is regarded as the 97th in the series of Tevara Stalams south of the river Kaveri. Shiva and Parvati chose this shrine as a resort, acknowledging its richness and fertility. Ganga appeared here. Parvati worshipped Shiva with flowers, gold and with the water of from the Ganga. Hence the name Semponnnathar. Kasyapa Muni worshipped Shiva here. The river Kaduvaai is now known as Kudamurutti. The sun`s rays illuminate the sanctum for three days period in the Tamil month of Chittirai. The temple has a five tiered Rajagopuram.The annual festival is in the month of Vaikasi.
