Kaal Bhairav Mandir is situated in Ratanpur, some 25 km from the chief town Bilaspur. The temple is dedicated to Kaal Bhairav, one among the 52 Bhairavs (`Bhairav`, Lord of Terror is another form of Lord Shiva, regarded as his `rudra` or dreadful form). A popular belief within the devotees of Kaal Bhairav is that this temple should be visited first before visiting the Mahamaya Devi Amndir, as Kaal Bhairav is regarded as the doorkeeper of the Devi. The Bilaspur Junction Railway Station on the Mumbai-Howrah main line is the nearest railhead.
