Somaiya, the founder of Somaiya Vidyavihar, believed that education regarding to Sanskrit language and ancient Indian traditions should be promoted. It is the largest institution, with maximum number of students and has been consistently rated among the best colleges. The College aims at attaining Social and Community development through education. K.J. Somaiya College of Arts and Commerce is nestled in sylvan surroundings of the Vidyavihar. It is one of the well known colleges of the city of Mumbai. The college is affiliated to the University of Mumbai and the UGC, Delhi.

Objective of K J Somaiya College:
The main objective of K J Somaiya College of Arts and Commerce is to impart qualitative education and to attain community and social development through proper knowledge. K J Somaiya College of Arts and Commerce aims at overall personality development of the students through curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. To empower a cross-section of the society through excellent education based on sound value system. K J Somaiya College of Arts and Commerce offers a wide variety of courses. This is especially so in respect of the Arts Faculty courses. There is much to choose from at both the Ancillary as well as the Major levels of study. Some of the major arts subjects offered at this college include Communication Skills, Sanskrit or Marathi, Foundation Course Paper, Commerce, Economics, History, Political Science, Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology, Geeta Ethics. Commerce subjects offered at this college are Business Communication, Business Economics, Environmental Studies, Mathematical and Statistical Techniques, Accounting and Financial Management and Foundation Course.

Facilities of K J Somaiya College:
K J Somaiya College of Arts and Commerce offers several facilities to the students. The college library has nearly 67,500 books and Internet access. The NSS and the NCC units of the college have been adjudged as the best units by Mumbai University. Further, K J Somaiya College of Arts and Commerce has academic collaborations with the University of California (Spartanburgh), the Brevard Community College at Coca in Florida. With student strength of about 6500 and a teaching and non teaching staff of 150, this institution, with their excellent co-operation is actively engaged in a host of curricular as well as extra-curricular activities throughout the year, both at the Junior and Senior College levels.
