The JSS College of Pharmacy is a well known medical institution, located in the city of Mysore, in Karnataka, India. The college started its journey in the year 1973, with the inspiration of Sri Swami Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji. The college started operating under the Management of JSS Maha Vidyapeetha, Mysore with a view to produce quality Pharmacists with a Diploma in Pharmacy. The main objective was to make such pharmacists, who could serve in community and Hospital Pharmacy. The college operated as a Diploma College for the first decade after its inception, and it was upgraded to the Degree level, after that.
The JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysore started offering B.Pharm course from 1983 for producing graduates in Pharmacy to meet their ever increasing need in the Pharmaceutical industry, Drugs Control, Hospital, Teaching and Community Pharmacy. A few years later in 1991, the college started offering postgraduate degree course of M.Pharm in Industrial Pharmacy specialization. The college also started offering PhD Programme in Pharmaceutical Sciences from 1992. Apart from that, the course named M.Pharm in Pharmacy Practice is being offered by the college from 1995-96 and M.Pharm in Bulk Drugs is being offered from 1999-2000. The college is also offering post graduate courses in clinical pharmacy (bridging programme) in collaboration with School of Pharmacy and Medical Sciences, University of South Australia since 2000.
The Diploma course (D.Pharm) offered by the JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysore has been recognised by the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) and its Degree course (B.Pharm) and P.G. Courses (M.Pharm) and PhD programme are affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bangaluru. All the Diploma, Degree and P.G. Courses of the college have got the approval of AICTE, New Delhi.
The JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysore follows different rules and regulations for admitting students in different courses. The students willing to get admitted in the B.Pharm course are required to have passed two year P.U.C. examination of Karnataka P.U.C. Board or an equivalent examination of any other approved Board or university. They should pass the examination with not less than 50% marks in any combination comprising P.C.M. or P.C.B. (minimum eligibility should be based on the aggregate of P.C.M. or P.C.B.) or P.C.M.B, P.C. and Computer Sciences, P.C. and Electronics, Pharm.D with 50% aggregate. The college consider the aggregate of P.C.M or P.C.B whichever is higher, for the students, who have taken P.C.M.B combination. The students, who belong to the SC/ST/or Category-I, are required to obtain not less than 40% in P.U.C. or its equivalent examination (P.C.B, or P.C.M. or P.C.M.B.), P.C and Computer Science, P.C and Electronics and D. Pharm.
The JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysore often considers the applicants who have scored less than 50% marks in (10+2) but have completed B.Sc. Degree with Chemistry as one of the compulsory subjects in combination with any two of the subjects, namely, Physics or Mathematics, or Microbiology, or Botany, or Zoology, or Bio-technology, or Computer Sciences or Electronics. They are considered eligible if they secure not less than 50% marks in aggregate. The candidates, who have scored less than 50 marks in 10+2 but have completed D. Pharm. course with more than 50% marks in aggregate in D. Pharm are also considered eligible. The candidates are required to be aged at least 17 years as on 31st December of the year of admission.
According to the admission criterion for the Pharm.D course in JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysore, the students are required to pass in any of the following examinations with Physics, Chemistry and Biology or P.C.M. or P.C.M.B with pass marks in aggregate of the above subjects. The examinations include the Intermediate examination in Science, Two year P.U.C with Science, 10 + 2 examination (academic stream) in Science, Pre-degree examination or any other qualification approved by the Pharmacy Council of India as equivalent to any of the above examinations.
For getting admitted in M. Pharm, the candidates with a B.Pharm degree from the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences or from any other Indian University established by law in India or any other degree courses in Pharmacy are considered as eligible. The degree should be recognized as equivalent by RGUHS or Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) and/or All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) for this purpose. The candidates are also required to secure not less than 55% of the maximum marks prescribed for the qualifying examination. Apart from them, the pharmacy teachers having recognized B.Pharm qualification and with minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in an institution approved by AICTE and PCI are also considered as eligible candidates, if they have scored not less than 50% of the maximum marks. The GATE qualified candidates get preference for getting admitted in M.Pharm in JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysore. The candidates, who have obtained Master`s Degree in the concerned subject of this University like M.Pharm or a degree considered as equivalent by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, are eligible for enrolment for Ph.D. course in this college.
