Jonha Falls is one of the most sacred waterfalls in the Jharkhand state of India. Also called Gautamdhara Falls, it is located in Ranchi district of Jharkhand. It is situated at an edge of the Ranchi plateau. In the location of this waterfall, tourists can find the natural beauty and the Buddhist shrine. It is visited by many people from local as well as from other parts of the city.
Beauty of Jonha Falls
Johna Falls adds charm to the beauty of Jharkhand and the dense jungle nearby. Jonha Falls is an example of a hanging valley falls in India. The Ganga River hangs over its master stream, Raru River and forms the falls. One is required to descend 722 steps to witness the confluence of Raru River and the Jonha Falls and the beauty of its surroundings. The waterfall falls from a height of 43 meters.
This waterfall is basically an instance of a nick point caused by rejuvenation. Knick point, also called a nick point or simply nick, represents breaks in slopes in the longitudinal profile of a river caused by rejuvenation. The break in conduit slope allows water to fall perpendicularly in giving the rise to a waterfall.
Attractions of Jonha Falls
There are many spots of interests in the vicinity of Jonha Falls. There is a tourist house where the people can rest and relax. This rest house encloses a Buddhist shrine with a deity of Lord Gautam Buddha. Apart from this, there is a temple and ashram built atop Gautam Pahar by the sons of Raja Baldevdas Birla. The temple and ashram is dedicated to Lord Buddha. Another attraction of this place is the fair which is organized on every Tuesday and Saturday.
Connectivity to Jonha Falls
The Jonha Falls is located approximately 40 kilometers from the district of Ranchi. Thus, it can be accessed by both railway and roadway. The nearest railhead to Johna fall is Jonha Station which is around 1.5 kilometers away. If one wants to avail road connectivity, then one has to take the Ranchi-Purulia Road and after travelling for about 20 miles, one has to travel about 3 miles off the main road to reach Jonha Falls.
