History of Jhunjhunu: The tales of Rajput bravery and courage are predominant in every part of the district. Jhunjhunu is itself a part of the Shekhawati Region. However, the exact time of the foundation of the district is still unknown. As far as its early history is concerned it is believed that it was ruled by the Chauhans. The early rulers were always engaged in wars to protect their kingdom. Later such a scenario altered. In 1450 Mohammed Khan and Samas Khan, his son defeated the Chauhans and captured Jhunjhunu. From then on the Nawabs went on ruling on the state. Ultimately the rule of the nawabs came to an end when in 1730 Shardul Singh occupied Jhunjhunu.
Till date he is considered one of the greatest diplomats and administrators in Rajasthan. He is immortalized in the history of Jhunjhunu and so are his five sons. After him his kingdom was divided amongst his five sons and this administration was called the "Panchpana."
Travel Information on Jhunjhunu: The nearest airport of Jhunjhunu is situated at the Jaipur airport. Buses from government stand run to Nawalgarh and throughout Shekhawati at regular intervals. Travelers can also reach Bikaner and Delhi by availing the buses. Apart from the government private buses also ply on the same routes and more. Two train services arrive at the station on the southern edge of town from Sikar via Nawalgarh (three of them from Jaipur), and the Shekhawati Express runs in the other direction, making a stop at Jaipur.
Local transports include auto rickshaws, which can be hired for touring the place. The local tourist office is attached to the RTDC Tourist Bungalow at Mandawa Circle, occupies a large new building on the western outskirts.
