The initiation of the fair is marked by the day on which Jaydev was believed to have taken bath in Ajay River`s Kadaambokhandi ghat. In the year 1982 the administration of the fair was took over by the district authorities for providing better facilities in the fair like lighting and security, better environment, drinking water and a good sanitation system. The fair witnesses a huge gathering of Bauls who stay at the hermitages for about a month. These Bauls are believed to carry the legacy of Jayadeva songs. The fair is thus also known as Baul Fair.
