Jatin Das, Indian PainterJatin Das is the part of Indian art for more than four decades with his paintings which depicts the new and dynamic ways of sketching human figures, man-woman relationship consisting of their crisis, contacts and disclosures, emotional tensions etc. He is the master of using colors in an exceptional way, which seem to reveal the tinges of every emotional expression in his paintings. The linear arrangement and brisk brushwork further add a unique dimension to his art works and express the inner energy of the figures.

Jatin Das was born in the year 1941 in the Mayurbhanj District in Orissa. He received his training in the field of art at Sir J.J.School of Art in Bombay. He was enrolled there for a period of five years, from 1957 to 1962. Thereafter he started participating in Art exhibitions both at national as well as international level. Some important exhibitions where he participated include the Biennales in Paris (1971), Venice (1978) and the Documenta in Kessel (1975). During the period of 1965 to 1991, Jatin Das arranged thirty-seven solo exhibitions, both national and international. In 1991, Lalit Kala Academy held a retrospective of his works. He attended twelve artist camps and four workshops and even offered his valuable art works in fourteen charity shows in India.

Jatin Das, Indian PainterFourteen limited editions of his theme-based graphics and narrative drawings have been taken out in India,UK and Germany. Jatin das served as the Consultant to the Handicraft Board for the seven northeastern states in India for the `Festival in India` organized in Russia.

Jatin Das had been a teacher at the Jamia Milia University, School of Planning and Architecture and the prestigious National School of Drama. Besides paintings he is involved in other activities too like he is the member of the jury board for the National Film Festival and one of the founder member of the poetry society, New Delhi. Jatin das has also made many exquisite murals for numerous public as well as private buildings.

Jatin Das believes that painting is intensely personal experience, the result of which cannot always be shared with others. The man-woman relationship, their sorrow and joy attracts Jatin to paint, which is mainly characterized by rhythmic discontinuities of color plains and rushing lines and the inherent energy and emotions of the figures are reflected by colors. In particular his nude paintings brought him acclaim in 1960s and 70s.

Presently Jatin Das is living and working in the capital city of India, New Delhi.
