Jara is a figurative term signifying `old age` and `decay`. Jara is mentioned in the Vishnu Purana as the name of the hunter by whom Krishna was killed.

Jara mistook the footsteps of Krishna as that of a deer. He shoots his arrow at that position. After he found that he had shot Krishna and not a deer, and then apologized for his mistake. He asked for pity and Krishna forgave him and sent him to heaven in his own car.
