Pilgrimage Tourism in Jammu
Jammu is a holy city of the Hindus and thus, a home to many temples. The impressive shikaras of the temples ascend high up into the sky and mark the city"s skyline thus creating the ambience of a holy city. The most popular pilgrimage site of Jammu is the Vaishno Devi and attracts tens of thousands of Hindu devotees every year. The sacred cave shrine of Vaishno Devi is located on top of the Trikuta hills at an altitude of 1700 meters. At the end of the cave are shrines dedicated to the three forms of the mother goddess namely Mahakali, Mahalakshmi and Mahasarasvati. The Raghunath temple of Jammu is situated at the heart of the city.

Nature Tourism in Jammu

Mansar Lake is a beautiful lake fringed by forest-covered hills. Boating facilities are available on the spot. Every year around Baisakhi, a food and crafts festival is organised here. Sanasar in Jammu is a cup shaped meadow surrounded by gigantic conifers. A place for a quiet holiday, the meadow has now been developed as a golf course. It also provides opportunities for paragliding. Gauri Kund is a natural spring in Jammu and legends has it that Goddess Parvati used to bath here before commencing her daily prayers at Sudh Mahadev. Mantalai in Jammu is surrounded by lush deodar forests, at an altitude of over 2000 meters. The Surinsar Lake is a picturesque spot with a lake surrounded by wooded hills. Baba Dhansar is a beautiful picnic spot and thus a major crowd puller. Here, a huge spring gushes out of the mountainside in a thick grove of trees and forms a number of small waterfalls before flowing into the Holy Banging. Next to the spring in a small grove in the rock face is a naturally formed Shivlinga on which droplets of water fall naturally all the year round. Wild life in Jammu is an important part of its nature tourism. Ramnagar Wildlife Sanctuary has Niglai and barking deers and also fifteen species of birds. The best season for mammal viewing is September to March and for bird viewing March to May. Nandini Wildlife Sanctuary has mammals like Leopard, Wild boar, Rhesus Monkey, Garal, Grey Langur, etc.

Leisure Tourism in Jammu
Tourism in JammuA range of trekking options is available in Jammu. There are excellent camping sites also enroute. The Sundarani- Jungal Gali-Jasarkote-Sanasar route in Jangal Gali area lets you choose any of three exciting treks. Skiing courses are conducted at Jammu in the months of January and February. During winter months there are introductory courses for tourists/beginners at gentle gradient slopes of Patnitop. As for facilities 40 sets of equipment is available at Patnitop and Sanasar Lake. Also available are wooden sledges locally. For beginners Instructors are also available. Paragliding has been introduced at Sanasar and Jammu. Equipment is available on Hire from tourist office in Jammu city. May-June and September October are best suited for paragliding. Other aero sports like Parasailing and Hot air ballooning are also becoming operational shortly. Jammu is dotted with many forts and palaces.

Visiting Information on Jammu
Jammu is well connected with the rest of the country through all means of transport. Jammu Airport or Satwari Airport connects this Indian city to almost all the other important cities of the country. However a limited number of international flights are permitted here. Jammu Airport is located at a distance of about eight kilometres from the city. Jammu Tawi is the main railhead that has a number of trains for most of the important towns and cities of the country. Jammu has been very well connected to almost every major town in India and there are very frequent trains to major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and other places of India.
