Jambu is the name of a rose-apple tree. This Jambu tree is found in the Mount Gandhamadana, the southern buttress of Mount Meru. The term Jambu Dwipa for the insular continent is derived from the name of Jambu tree. The apples of Jambu tree are said to be as large as elephants. The Jambu tree provides great shade and coolness against the sun with its thick, leathery leaves and great span of branches. It is said that Lord Buddha sat in the shade of a Jambu Tree.
