Jagannath Temple, Raipur, ChhattisgarhThe Jagannath temple was established in 1860, located in the Sadar Bazar. It has legends attached to it. The chief festival held here is evidently `Ratha Yatra`, where the idols of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Shubhadra are placed on chariots (raths) and taken out with much fanfare and ornate processions.

On full moon nights the Rathyatra returns back to the respective seat of the Jagannath Temple. It is the oldest and the very first temple of the Lord to be erected in Chhattisgarh state. Devotees are of the faith that if one can catch a glimpse of the three gods in unison, on the chariots, they are bound to attain salvation (moksha). Due to this very in-built belief, not only people of Raipur, but also people from other parts of the country throng to watch this procession.
