J.P. Dutta, Bollywood DirectorBorn on 3rd October, 1949, J.P. Dutta is the son of the Indian film director and writer, O.P. Dutta. With a handful of movies, J. P. Dutta is an Indian film director and producer, who produce his films under the production house of J.P. Films. He is also a writer and is best known for making patriotic action war films.

Career of J.P Dutta
J.P Dutta is famously known for directing patriotic war films or movies in the action genre with great ensemble star cast. His first official directorial venture was the 1985 multi-starrer movie "Ghulami". From 1988 to 1993, he directed about 4 movies, all of which were multi starrer Box Office hits. It was in the year 1997, J.P. Dutta received huge recognition after his movie "Border" became the highest-grossing film of that year in India. Border is an Indian war movie that was based on the "Battle of Longewala" during the Indo- Pakistan War of 1971 and had an ensemble cast of Suniel Shetty, Sunny Deol, Akshaye Khanna and Jackie Shroff in pivotal roles.

His next ventures were "Refugee" (2000), "LOC Kargil" (2003) and "Umrao Jaan" (2006), all of which were written, produced and directed by J. P. Dutta himself. And in 2018, after a 12 year long hiatus, J.P. Dutta released "Paltan", another Indian war film based on the 1967 Nathu La and Cho La clashes along the Sikkim border after the 1962 Sino- Indian War. The film did not do well in the Box Office and received average to poor reviews.

In 1998, J.P. Dutta was awarded the "National Award for Best Feature Film on National Integration" from President of India for his super hit film "Border". It is known that in 2010, he headed the feature film section jury for the National Film Awards.

J.P. Dutta is married to 70s Bollywood film actress Bindya Goswami with whom he has 2 daughters Nidhi and Siddhi.
