Islands of Indian Union Territory deal with tourist destinations in Puducherry, Lakshadweep, Daman and Diu and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Lakshadweep
Lakshadweep is a group of islands in the Laccadive Sea. It is about 200 to 440 kilometers of the south western coast of India. Agatti Aerodrome on Agatti Island is the only airport in Lakshadweep. Lakshadweep was already known as a tourist attraction for Indians since 1974. Lakshadweep brings in significant revenue, which is likely to increase. Since such a small region cannot support industries, the government is actively promoting tourism as a means of income in Bangaram and Kadmat islands. Bangaram is projected as a major destination for international tourism. The marine fauna are plentiful. The water sports activities such as scuba diving, wind surfing, snorkeling, surfing, kayaking; canoeing, water skiing, sport fishing, yachting and night-voyages into the sea are quite popular activities among tourists. The national and international tourists flock to these islands throughout the year except during the South-west monsoon months when seas are extremely rough.
Minicoy Islands
Minicoy is the southernmost atoll of the archipelago of Lakshadweep Islands. It is a census town in the Indian union territory of Lakshadweep. Minicoy is the second largest and the southernmost among the islands of the Lakshadweep archipelago. It is located 201 km to the SSW of Kalpeni, at the southern end of the Nine Degree Channel and 125 km to the north of Thuraakunu, Maldives, at the northern end of the Eight Degree Channel.
Netrani Island
Netrani is a small island of India located in the Arabian Sea. It is off the coast of Karnataka situated approximately 10 nautical miles from the temple town of Murudeshwara in Bhatkal Taluk. The views of Netrani Islands bring the tourism opportunity in Karnataka. Netrani Island is the coral reef, with many varieties of coral, butterfly fish, trigger fish, parrot fish, eels and shrimps can be seen here.
Diu Island
Diu Island is lying off the south coast of Gujarat`s Kathiawar peninsula, separated from the mainland by a tidal creek. It has an area of 40 square kilometers, and a population of 44,110. The town of Diu and Diu Fort are located on the island. It is connected with Diu Airport. Diu Island also allures the tourists with St. Paul`s Church and St. Thomas Church.
Andaman and Nicobar Islands
Andaman and Nicobar Islands attracts the tourists with many islands and sea beaches. It has the capital city- Port Blair. Andaman and Nicobar Islands have a tropical rainforest canopy, made of a mixed flora with elements from Indian, Myanmar, Malaysian and endemic floral strains. Andaman and Nicobar Islands is now the major tourism destination with sea beaches, pristine islands and water sports activities.
