Indraprastha College for Women, Sham Nath Marg, New DelhiIndraprastha College for Women, better known as IP College, was founded in 1904 as Indraprastha Girls School. The college was born due to the sole motivation of a team of local theosophists. Indraprastha College for Women grew as a complete college by 1930s. Then in 1938, Delhi University bestowed upon it the recognition of a degree college. Down the years it has earned the reputation of being one of the premier colleges in the country imparting higher education amongst women.

Indraprastha College for Women admits students in numerous courses in all 3 disciplines of Arts, Science and Commerce. 3-year undergraduate honours courses in Commerce and also in other subjects like Mathematics, English, Hindi, Philosophy, Sanskrit and Psychology are offered. Science aspirants can also opt for B.Sc Hons. courses in Economics, Computer Science, Political Science, History, Mass Media and Mass Communication. Moreover the college also offers a B.A. programme.

Postgraduate courses in Economics, History, Operational Research, Psychology, Mathematics, Philosophy, Sanskrit, English, Hindi, Music and Political Science are also offered to the students of Indraprastha College.

In 1952, Indraprastha College hostel was established which presently can accommodate nearly two hundred students. It also has a well-stocked library housing a collection of seventy eight thousand books.Besides the library takes subscription to over hundred daily magazines and journals.The College has facilities of a spacious canteen, computer laboratory, bank, P.C.O., Cyber cafe, medical room. Strolling around in the spectacular garden of this college is an added attraction. For an overall personality development, students of Indraprastha College are motivated to participate in numerous extra curricular activities like sports , cultural festivals and so on. Sports like Volleyball, Cricket, basketball, Hockey, table tennis, Badminton, Handball, Kho Kho, Gymnastics and Judo are popular games amongst IP college students. The gymnasium and swimming pool also are frequented by the students.

Various societies are present, including the dramatics Society, debating societies, film society, music & dance society, women`s development society, fine arts society, Gandhi Study Circle, Nature Club, Women Development cell; they are all doing a great job. There are eminent personalities of the country who are the proud alumni of Indraprastha College for Women. Late Smt Sucheta Kripalani, former Chief Minister; Ms. Raj Mitroo, India`s first woman Glider Pilot; and diplomats Smt. Madhu Bhaduri and Smt. Chitra Narayan.
