Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Patna, BiharThe Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) is a renowned medical institution located in Patna, Bihar. The autonomous institute was established on 19th November, 1983, following the pattern of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. The institute was established for achieving a number of aims and objectives and it has already established itself as one of the premier medical institutions in the state. The institute has been providing medical education to the students of Bihar and also conducting health and medicinal research programmes, since its inception.

The main objective with which the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), Patna was founded include establishing an apex centre for delivery of health and medical care of highest standard. The institute also has the objective of training specialists of high order in different branches of medical services and improving the health service in the State through appropriate linkage and referral system with Medical Colleges and District and Sub divisional hospitals. Apart from that, developing the continued education programme and awarding degrees and certificates and Post Graduate degrees to the students was also another objective of the IGIMS, Patna.

The Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), Patna has been working to develop clinical research centres for conducting investigation on the problems of human health and diseases peculiar to and prevent in this part of the country for several years. It is also working for developing Community Health Research Centre to study and finding out solutions to the problems of health of the community with particular emphasis on reproductive biology and population control. Developing research and training in basic sciences relevant to the problems and needs of the Community is also one of the most important objectives of the IGIMS, Patna.

The Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), Patna has a large number of clinical departments in it that are dedicated in achieving its goals and objectives. The major departments of IGIMS, Patna include the department of Gastroenterology, Nephrology, Neuro Surgery, Neurology, Internal Medicine, Paediatric, Cardiology, Reproductive Biology, Endocrinology, Anaesthiology, Community Medicine, Pulmonology, Gastro Intenstile Surgery, Nuclear Medicine, Urology and General Surgery.
