India-Pakistan Bangalore Test, 1983The India-Pakistan Bangalore Test, 1983 was the first match of the 3-match Test series between the two teams and the match is remembered for some good batting performances from both the teams. The match remained drawn during the stipulated period of time and the Pakistan captain, Zaheer Abbas was accused for being instrumental behind the draw, by taking negative approach in the match.

The Indian captain in the match, Kapil Dev won the toss and decided to bat first in the match, a decision that was well supported by the Indian batsmen. The Indian team faced some early struggles in the beginning of the match, as it lost its first six wickets, within a small score of 85 runs. The Indian opener, legendary batsman, Sunil Gavaskar showed some resistance in the early half of the Indian first innings and scored 42 runs to get the scoreboard going. The Pakistani opening bowler, Tahir Naqqash bowled brilliantly in the innings and he took 5 wickets for only 76 runs in the innings. However, the famous Indian batsmen Roger Binny and Madan Lal made a wonderful partnership of 155 runs to rescue their team from the early disaster. Binny scored 83 runs and Madan Lal scored 74 and their combined efforts helped India to get a score of 275 runs in the first innings.

After being all out for a small total of 275 runs, the onus was on the Indian bowlers to take their team into a comfortable position in the match. The bowlers did a good job by bowling with perfect line and length right from the beginning of Pakistan`s first innings. The Indian skipper, Kapil Dev took the main initiative in the bowling department and took 5 wickets for only 68 runs. As he got some good support from Madan Lal, who took 3 wickets for 72 runs, the Pakistan team eventually got out for only 288 runs, in their first innings. Only the batsmen like Javed Miandad and Wasim Bari played well for Pakistan, as they scored 99 and 64 runs, respectively in the innings.

By the time Pakistan completed its first innings, the match was already in the final day and understandingly, there was no chance of getting a result from the match. After Pakistan finished its first innings on 288 runs, with a lead of 13 runs over India, the Indian team played with leisure in the second innings. The two Indian openers, Sunil Gavaskar and Anshuman Gaekwad did no hurry while batting in the innings and they remained unbeaten till the end of the match. Both the batsmen played well in the match and Gavaskar scored 103 runs from 185 balls. Gaekwad played an innings of 66 runs from 184 balls and as both of them remained unbeaten, the match eventually ended as a drawn one. There was a strange incidence in the final day of the match. The Pakistan team went out of the field, before the umpires called the match off, however, some one described it as a misunderstanding. However, the Pakistan team soon came back on the field and finished the match.
