This season had to be adjusted around a week late than every year because of the tight scheduling of teams due to the 2015 Cricket World Cup, where Australia won the finals against New Zealand Cricket Team. Mumbai Indians won the tournament for the second time, defeating Chennai Super Kings by 41 runs in the final at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on 24 May 2015. Captain Rohit Sharma was the player of the match scoring a rapid 50 off just 26 balls.

The 2015 season of the Indian Premier League, which is abbreviated as IPL 8 or Pepsi IPL 2015, is the eighth season of the Indian Premier League. Kolkata Knight Riders are the defending champions having won the title in the 2014 season of IPL.

The complete tournament of Indian Premier League 2015 held across different cities in India unlike the previous season of 2014 Indian Premier League.

The tournament of Indian Premier League 2015 started on Wednesday, 8th April 2015 after the end of the 2015 Cricket World Cup. The tournament ended on 24 May 2015.

A total of 60 T20 matches was held in the entire tournament. There were no matches in Kolkata between April 12, 2015 and April 25, 2015 due to Kolkata Municipal Elections and the Corporation Elections.

The franchises retained 123 players 8th Indian Premier League 2015 season before moving into auction. The released players provided an option to register themselves for auction. The six players were transferred across teams before the auction took place.

In the Pepsi Indian Premier League 2015, the auction held on February 16 at Bengaluru, Yuvraj Singh was sold to Delhi Daredevils for 16 crores of rupees, for a record bid in Indian Premier League 2015 auction history. A total of 67 players were sold out in the auction and all franchises spent total of 87.60 Crores to buy players.

The season of Indian Premier League 2015 saw 26 match officials. The 13 Indian umpires and four match referees who were officiating. The twenty six match officials (Umpires and Referees) participated in a two-day workshop, organised by the Board of Cricket Council of India, in preparation for the upcoming Pepsi IPL season. The workshop on Indian Premier League 2015 was held at the Cricket Centre, Mumbai, on 4th and 5th April 2015, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
